Many organizations offer computer maintenance services and repairs over the internet. We can do that for you, too, but there are some potential ethical problems with online service.
The single biggest trouble computers have on Kaua’i is corrosion from the climate. You would be amazed how many problems are attributable to dirty electronic contacts; pull the machine apart and clean every connection, and it works wonders. In a surprising number of the computers we work on, that winds up being THE problem. And that kind of inspection is something that you simply cannot do over the internet. We see a large number of computers mis-diagnosed by various online services as virus-infected, and the online guy (usually in India or Asia) never even suspected that there was a hardware problem.
Because of that, we cannot offer online service for any computer that hasn’t first been into our shop for a thorough checkout. Or, as an alternative, we can come to you for that initial checkout, but the first time we work on a machine has to be hands-on.
Once we know your computer, we’re happy to come in through the back door (at your request, of course) and perform routine maintenance tasks and software repairs. But we believe that to offer any kind of “maintenance service” that gives any promise of “fixing your computer” without having first given your computer a good visual inspection in person is dishonest business, and we won’t do that.
